Coronavirus (COVID-19)
FROM NHS INFORM:
Most people no longer need to take a coronavirus test. Testing is still available if you have a health condition which means you’re eligible for new coronavirus treatments or if you work in NHS health or social care settings and have symptoms.
If you aren't eligible for testing and you have symptoms of a respiratory infection such as coronavirus and have a high temperature or do not feel well enough to go to work or carry out normal activities, try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people. Try to do this until you no longer have a high temperature (if you had one) or until you feel better.
Visit: https://www.nhsinform.scot/ for more information
Please note, GP surgeries are no longer responsible for the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Flu Clinics
Please be advised, GP surgeries are no longer responsible for administering Flu Vaccines.
If you’re entitled to a vaccine the Healthboard will be in contact with you directly.
More about the vaccine
Flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications.
Flu can be unpleasant, but if you are otherwise healthy it will usually clear up on its own within a week.
However, flu can be more severe in certain people, such as:
- anyone aged 65 and over
- pregnant women
- children and adults with an underlying
- health condition (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease)
- children and adults with weakened immune systems
Anyone in these risk groups is more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as pneumonia (a lung infection), so it's recommended that they have a flu vaccine every year to protect them.
The injected flu vaccine is offered free on the NHS annually to:
- adults over the age of 18 at risk of flu (including everyone aged 65 and over)
- pregnant women
- children aged 6 months to 2 years at risk of flu
Flu nasal spray vaccination
The flu vaccine is routinely given on the NHS as an annual nasal spray to:
- children aged 2 and 3 plus children in primary school
- children aged 2 to 17 years at a particular risk of flu
How effective is the flu jab?
Flu vaccine is the best protection we have against an unpredictable virus that can cause unpleasant illness in children and severe illness and death among at-risk groups, including older people, pregnant women and those with an underlying medical health condition.
Studies have shown that the flu jab will help prevent you getting the flu. It won't stop all flu viruses and the level of protection may vary, so it's not a 100% guarantee that you'll be flu-free, but if you do get flu after vaccination it's likely to be milder and shorter-lived than it would otherwise have been.
There is also evidence to suggest that the flu jab can reduce your risk of having a stroke.
Over time, protection from the injected flu vaccine gradually decreases and flu strains often change. So new flu vaccines are produced each year which is why people advised to have the flu jab need it every year too.
Flu jab side effects?
Serious side effects of the injected flu vaccine are very rare.
You may have a mild fever and aching muscles for a couple of days after having the jab, and your arm may be a bit sore where you were injected.
When to have a flu jab?
The best time to have a flu vaccine is in the autumn, from the beginning of October to early November, but don't worry if you've missed it, you can have the vaccine later in winter up until mid February
Is there anyone who shouldn't have the flu jab?
Most adults can have the injected flu vaccine, but you should avoid it if you have had a serious allergic reaction to a flu jab in the past.
House Calls
There will be times when patients are unable to attend the Surgery due to serious illness.
Please try to telephone the reception before 10 am and a GP will speak to you. The Doctor may decide that it is more appropriate for the patient to be seen in the Health Centre or directly in the Hospital and wherever possible we prefer to see children within the Health Centre.
Test Results
Blood and X-ray results can take from 7-10 days to return to the Practice. Please telephone or attend the reception for your results.
Results are available from 8.30am – 6pm.
Unable To Keep Your Appointment?
Please telephone the Practice to cancel your appointment. This allows us to give your appointment to someone else. You can also reply to your text message appointment reminder with “CANCEL”.
Surgeries Can Sometime Run Late
Due to individual patients needing longer than expected with a Doctor or because of emergencies, occasionally Surgeries can run late.
We will endeavour to keep you informed of how long you may have to wait if this occurs.
Zero Tolerance
We do not tolerate any threatening or abusive behaviour on the Surgery premises and patients will be removed from the Practice list if this occurs.
Subsequently the Health Board will be able to allocate you to an appropriate Practice if this occurs.
Disabled Access
There is a ramp access at the front of the Health Centre and lift at ground level, which will give access to the basement and first floor levels.
Medical Students
Rarely, students may be trained within the Practice. If you would prefer not to be involved, please inform the Doctor / receptionist before your consultation.
Your Personal Health Information
To provide you with the care you need, we hold the details of your consultations, illnesses, tests, prescriptions and other treatments that have been recorded by everyone involved in your care and treatment e.g. G.P, Health Visitor, and Practice Nurse.
This information may be stored on paper or electronically on computer files by practice staff. We sometimes disclose some of your personal health information with other organisations involved in your care.
For example, when your GP refers you to a specialist at the hospital we will send relevant details about you in the referral letter and receive information about you from them. Our practice also participates in regional and national programmes such as the cervical cytology screening service and your name and address, date of birth and health number will be given to them in order to send an invitation to you.
We need to use some of your personal health information for administrative purposes. In order to receive payment for services provided to you, we have to disclose basic details about you to the NHS Board responsible for this area and to the Common Services Agency for the Scottish Health Service. These organisations have a role in protecting public funds, and are authorised to check that payments are being properly made. We are required to co-operate with these checks and the disclosure of your data is a necessary part of our provision of healthcare services.
Dr Harris & Partners is a training Practice
This means that Doctors who are training to become General Practitioners will be working within our Practice. You can make an appointment to see one of these Doctors in exactly the same way as you do for any of the other Doctors or Nurses.
Their work is closely supervised and reviewed by a GP Partner in the Practice at all times.
Sometimes, we may participate in studies that are designed to improve the way services are provided to you. We will ensure that as far as possible any details that may identify you are not disclosed. We are sometimes involved in health research and the teaching of student nurses, doctors and other health professionals. We will not use or disclose your personal health information for these purposes unless you have been informed beforehand and given your consent for us to do so.
Where you need a service jointly provided with a local authority we would seek your permission before giving them your details.
Sometimes we are required by law to pass on information e.g. the notification of births and deaths and certain diseases or crimes to the government is a legal requirement.
Our use of your personal health information is covered by a duty of confidentiality, and is regulated by the Data Protection Act. The Data Protection Act gives you a number of rights in relation to how your personal information is used, including a right to access the information we hold about you.
Everyone working for the NHS has a legal duty to keep information about you confidential and adheres to a Code of Practice on Protecting Patient confidentiality. Anyone who receives information from us is also under a legal duty to keep it confidential.
